CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card
Credit Card Review
🎁 Up to $1,500 in welcome bonus value
MoneyMint Rating: 2.9/5 — based on our published rating criteria (rewards value, fees, flexibility, and eligibility transparency). Not sponsored by CIBC.
The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card is a mid-tier travel rewards card that pairs a broad travel insurance package with Aventura Points earned on everyday spending. It earns a base 1 point per dollar on all purchases, an enhanced 1.5 points per dollar (capped at $80,000 in combined annual spend) at grocery stores, gas stations, EV charging stations, and drugstores, and double points on travel booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre. It suits CIBC customers who want built-in travel coverage and a moderate rewards program without stepping up to a premium annual fee — though a few details, including the welcome offer’s expiry date and the exact NEXUS rebate value, aren’t fully confirmed in CIBC’s own published materials as of this review.
Key Drawbacks to Know Before Applying
Before applying, weigh a few things CIBC doesn’t make obvious on its own marketing page. The enhanced 1.5x earn rate on groceries, gas, EV charging, and drugstores is capped at $80,000 in combined annual spend — a limit disclosed only in the Benefits Guide, not the product page. No application deadline was found for the current welcome offer, so treat “up to $1,500 in value” as a snapshot rather than a permanent guarantee, and confirm live terms before applying. CIBC’s welcome-offer materials also value the included NEXUS application fee rebate at “$160,” while its Benefits Guide separately lists an ongoing NEXUS rebate of “up to $200 every 4 years” — the two figures don’t obviously reconcile, so don’t rely on either number without checking CIBC’s current terms directly. And while CIBC’s current documentation for this card lists Common Carrier Accident Insurance as active, CIBC removed that same benefit from its Dividend-tier Visa cards on the same effective date — worth a final check before relying on it. Finally, this card is a separate product from the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege, which carries a $499 annual fee and different earn rates, income requirements, and benefits; don’t compare figures across the two.
