The TD Aeroplan Visa Business Card is unusual among Canadian rewards cards: it charges 14.99% on purchases, roughly five points below the 19.99% to 20.99% that most business rewards cards charge. For a business that occasionally carries a balance, that difference can be worth more than the rewards. It also carries a full travel and purchase insurance package and earns Aeroplan points, the most valuable mainstream loyalty currency in Canada by our valuations. The catch is the welcome offer: the full 60,000 points requires $25,000 of spending over a year.

Pros and Cons

What works

  • A 14.99% purchase APR, roughly 5 points below most competing business rewards cards.
  • A full insurance package: travel medical to $2 million, trip cancellation and interruption, flight delay, lost baggage, common carrier accident, rental car collision, hotel burglary, purchase security and extended warranty, and mobile device coverage to $1,000.
  • Earns Aeroplan points, which we value at 2.0 cents each — the highest of the mainstream Canadian programmes.
  • The annual fee and up to 2 additional card fees are rebated in the first year.

What to watch

  • The full 60,000-point welcome offer needs $25,000 of spending across a year; the first tranche alone is only 10,000 points.
  • Bonus-category earning stops at $80,000 of annual spending.
  • Travel medical covers only the first 15 days of a trip, dropping to 4 days from age 65.
  • TD does not state the foreign transaction fee on the product page, so confirm it before spending abroad.

What You Earn

2 points per $1Purchases made directly with Air Canada and with participating Hyatt hotels
1.5 points per $1Travel and transit, dining, EV charging, shipping, and internet, cable and phone services
1 point per $1Everything else, and all bonus-category spending above the $80,000 annual cap
Fee rebate$149 annual fee plus up to 2 additional card fees rebated in year one
At our 2.0 cents per Aeroplan point valuation, the 1.5x categories work out to about 3% back and the base rate to about 2% — strong for a card that also charges only 14.99% on a carried balance.

Who It’s For

A good fit if

  • Your business sometimes carries a balance and the 14.99% rate would save you more than a richer rewards card would earn.
  • You or your staff fly Air Canada and can use Aeroplan points.
  • You want real travel insurance attached to the card your business books travel on.

Look elsewhere if

  • You cannot reach $25,000 of annual spending — much of the welcome offer will go unclaimed.
  • You prefer straightforward cash back to a loyalty programme.
  • You spend more than $80,000 a year in the bonus categories, where earning stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the purchase APR so much lower than other rewards cards?

TD prices this card at 14.99% on purchases, against the 19.99% to 20.99% typical of Canadian business rewards cards. On a $10,000 balance carried for a year, that gap is roughly $500 in interest — more than most welcome offers are worth. It is the card’s single most distinctive feature.

How much do I have to spend to earn the full welcome bonus?

All three tiers require $25,000 in total: 10,000 points come on your first purchase, 30,000 more after $15,000 of spending within 180 days, and the final 20,000 after $25,000 within 365 days. If your business spends less than that, you will earn only part of the offer.

What is 60,000 Aeroplan points actually worth?

At MoneyMint’s valuation of 2.0 cents per Aeroplan point, 60,000 points is worth roughly $1,200 when redeemed well — typically on Air Canada or Star Alliance flights. Redeemed for merchandise or gift cards, the same points return considerably less.

What insurance comes with the card?

TD lists travel medical up to $2 million for the first 15 days (4 days from age 65), trip cancellation and interruption, flight and trip delay, delayed and lost baggage, common carrier travel accident, auto rental collision, hotel and motel burglary, purchase security and extended warranty, and mobile device coverage up to $1,000.

Is the annual fee really free in the first year?

TD rebates the $149 annual fee in the first year, and also rebates the $49 fee for up to 2 additional cards. From year two the fees apply normally, so treat the first year as a trial rather than a permanent saving.
