How we make money. MoneyMint has no paid relationship with any broker in this tool, and the links earn us nothing. If that changes we will say so here, before you click anything. The results are worked from each broker’s own published fees; nothing has been paid for.

Which Broker Is Cheapest for How You Invest?

Tell us how much you’re investing and how you trade. We work out what a year would cost at all 11 Canadian brokers we review, from their own fee schedules, and show the three that come out cheapest for you.

How You Invest

Your total balance at the broker. It decides which account fees apply.

Buys and sells combined. Twelve is one a month.

Per-share brokers price by the share; we assume a $50 average share price.

Leave blank to use the estimate above. This is the cost most people miss.

Leave at 0 if you don’t trade options. We assume 10 contracts per order.

How We Worked This Out

  • Every fee comes from the broker’s own fee schedule and pricing page as of 19 September 2026. Nothing is estimated except where a broker will not publish a figure, and those are marked.
  • Three brokers do not publish what they charge to convert Canadian dollars to US dollars (Qtrade, Scotia iTRADE and moomoo). For them we assume the highest rate any other broker publishes for the same amount and mark their totals “at least”. That is a working assumption, not a guarantee: their real spread is unpublished and could be lower or higher.
  • Currency tiers are set in US dollars; we convert your Canadian figure at 1.38 to place it in a tier. BMO, CIBC and RBC quote spreads in basis points of the exchange rate and also print the equivalent percentage; we use the percentage. TD adds a one-third surcharge to its published rates, which we include.
  • Four bank brokerages have lists of ETFs that trade free (TD 108, CIBC 180+, Scotia 200+, RBC 50+). We charge the full commission and note the list, because we cannot know whether your ETF is on it.
  • Not included: interest paid on idle cash, market-data subscriptions, sign-up offers, and the cost to leave (shown separately). Fee waivers that depend on things we did not ask about, such as a monthly pre-authorized contribution at TD, are noted rather than applied.
