Mint Rebate
On some credit cards and bank accounts, MoneyMint pays you cash when you apply through our page and get approved. We call it the Mint Rebate. It comes from us, not the bank, and it’s paid on top of the issuer’s own welcome bonus, so you get both.
- 1Get a claim codeOn the card or account’s review page, enter your email in the Mint Rebate box. We’ll show you a claim code. Save it.
- 2Apply right awayWe send you to the issuer’s site. Finish the application there, in the same browser, straight away. The issuer decides whether to approve you, not us.
- 3Get paidWe send your rebate by Interac e-Transfer within 30 days after the issuer’s affiliate network confirms your approval to us.
That confirmation usually reaches us within a few business days of your approval. We’ll email you when your claim is confirmed, and again when the money is sent. To see which cards and accounts have one, look for the green Mint Rebate tag on reviews and lists.
How to make sure your claim tracks
We can only pay when the issuer’s affiliate network records that your application came from MoneyMint. If that record is missing, we have no way to confirm it, even if you really did apply from our page. These steps give your claim the best chance:
- Apply in the same browser session, on the same device, right after you leave our page.
- Keep the email address you claimed with working. That’s where the e-Transfer goes.
- Claim codes last 30 days. If you don’t finish applying in time, claim again for a new code.
- Don’t use a VPN, an ad blocker, a cookie blocker, or private/incognito browsing while you apply.
- Don’t open the issuer’s site in a separate tab, come back later through a search result, or apply by phone, in a branch or through another comparison site.
Who can claim
- Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory.
- New customers. If you already have that card or account, or had it recently enough that the issuer treats you as a returning customer, the claim won’t qualify.
- One Mint Rebate per person per product. You can claim on different products, but only for yourself, not for someone else or as an authorized user.
Common questions
Why does MoneyMint pay me?
When you’re approved through our link, the issuer or its affiliate network pays MoneyMint a commission for the referral. The Mint Rebate is funded out of that commission. It’s our reward to you, not an offer from the issuer.
Does the Mint Rebate affect your ratings or rankings?
No. Our ratings come from our published formula, which doesn’t include the Mint Rebate or whether we earn a commission. A card with a Mint Rebate is rated exactly as it would be without one.
Is it the same as the bank’s welcome bonus?
No. The welcome bonus comes from the issuer, under the issuer’s terms. The Mint Rebate comes from MoneyMint, under our terms. If you qualify for both, you get both.
Can I apply without claiming a Mint Rebate?
Yes. The claim box has a link to skip it and go straight to the issuer’s site. MoneyMint may still earn a commission if you’re approved.
Why might a claim not qualify?
The most common reasons: the application is declined or withdrawn, you’re an existing or returning customer, the affiliate network doesn’t record or confirm the referral, the issuer later reverses it, or it duplicates a claim you’ve already made on that product. If you think something went wrong, contact us with your claim code after the confirmation window has passed.
What if the issuer reverses my referral after I’ve been paid?
We won’t ask for the money back, unless the claim was fraudulent.
Do I have to pay tax on it?
We don’t issue tax slips for the Mint Rebate. How you treat it on your own return is up to you. We’re not tax advisers, so if you’re unsure, ask a tax professional.
What do you do with my email?
We store your email, claim code, the product and the date, and use them only to confirm and pay your rebate and to contact you about that claim. We don’t sell them. See our Privacy Policy.
This page is a plain-English summary. The Mint Rebate Terms are the full rules and govern every claim.
