TD Business Travel Visa Card

Our take: a strong fit only if your business books travel through Expedia For TD, where 9 points per dollar is about 4.5% back. Outside that portal the base rate falls to about 1%, which is ordinary.

Welcome bonusUp to $1,300 in value, including up to 200,000 TD Rewards points and the first-year fee rebated for you and up to 4 additional cardholders.

The TD Business Travel Visa earns its keep inside TD’s own travel portal. Book through ExpediaForTD.com and you earn 9 TD Rewards points per dollar, which at the 0.5 cents these points redeem for works out to about 4.5% back. Spend anywhere else and you earn 2 points per dollar, or roughly 1%. It also carries a full insurance package and rebates the first-year fee for you and up to four employees, which makes it unusually cheap to put a team on in year one.

Pros and Cons

What works

  • 9 points per $1 through Expedia For TD, about 4.5% back at the rate these points redeem for.
  • 6 points per $1 on foreign-currency purchases, which partly offsets the foreign transaction fee.
  • A full insurance package: travel medical to $2 million, trip cancellation and interruption, flight delay, lost and delayed baggage, common carrier accident, rental car collision, and purchase security with extended warranty.
  • First-year fee rebated for the primary cardholder and up to 4 additional cards — the most generous employee-card rebate among the business cards we track.

What to watch

  • TD Rewards points redeem at about 0.5 cents, so headline point totals look far larger than the value behind them.
  • Outside the portal and bonus categories the card earns 2 points per $1, roughly 1% — beatable by a no-fee 1% cash-back card with no fee at all.
  • Booking through a portal means giving up direct-with-airline benefits and can complicate changes and refunds.
  • The 19.99% purchase APR is 5 points higher than TD’s own Aeroplan business card.

What You Earn

9 points per $1Travel booked through ExpediaForTD.com
6 points per $1Dining, EV charging and transit; streaming, digital gaming, media and recurring bills; and foreign-currency purchases
2 points per $1Everything else, and all bonus-category spending above the $80,000 annual cap
Fee rebate$149 annual fee plus up to 4 additional card fees rebated in year one
The headline 200,000-point offer is worth about $1,000 at the 0.5 cents these points redeem for — a large number attached to a modest value, which is worth understanding before you choose this over an Aeroplan card.

Who It’s For

A good fit if

  • Your business books flights and hotels through Expedia and is happy to keep doing so through TD’s portal.
  • You want to issue several employee cards and want the first year free on all of them.
  • You spend meaningfully in foreign currencies and want the 6x to offset the conversion cost.

Look elsewhere if

  • You book directly with airlines or hotels — the 9x never applies and the base rate is ordinary.
  • You want points worth more than half a cent; Aeroplan is four times the value per point by our estimates.
  • You carry a balance; TD’s own Aeroplan business card charges 14.99% against this card’s 19.99%.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TD Rewards point worth?

About half a cent. TD Rewards points redeem at 0.5 cents each through Expedia For TD, which is the rate we use. That means 200,000 points is roughly $1,000 — a large point total attached to a moderate cash value, so compare it against offers quoted in other currencies carefully.

Do I have to book through Expedia to get value?

To earn the 9 points per $1 rate, yes — it applies only to travel booked through ExpediaForTD.com. You can still redeem points against other travel purchases, but the headline earn rate is portal-only.

How many employee cards can I get free in the first year?

TD rebates the $149 primary fee and the $49 fee for up to 4 additional cards in the first year. From year two, each additional card costs $49 a year.

How does it compare with the TD Aeroplan Visa Business Card?

Both cost $149 with a first-year rebate and carry similar insurance. The Aeroplan card earns points we value at 2.0 cents and charges 14.99% on purchases; this card earns points worth 0.5 cents but pays 9x inside the Expedia portal. If you book through Expedia and never carry a balance, this card can win; otherwise the Aeroplan card is usually the stronger choice.

Does the 6x on foreign-currency purchases cancel out the foreign transaction fee?

Partly. At 0.5 cents per point, 6 points per $1 is about 3% back, and Canadian Visa cards typically charge about 2.5% on foreign purchases — though TD does not state its fee on this product page, so confirm it before counting on the offset.
