The TD Platinum Travel Visa Card is a mid-tier travel rewards card that earns an elevated rate on Expedia For TD bookings and on everyday categories like groceries, dining, and transit, up to annual caps, plus a flat rate elsewhere. With an $89 annual fee that’s rebated under TD’s current offer and a straightforward TD Rewards Points program, it’s positioned between TD’s no-fee cards and its premium Visa Infinite travel cards. The included coverage is narrower than it first looks: TD bundles flight and trip delay, delayed and lost baggage, common carrier travel accident, auto rental collision/loss damage and hotel/motel burglary insurance, but travel medical, trip cancellation and trip interruption are sold separately as optional TD travel insurance rather than included with the card.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 6 TD Rewards Points per $1 on Expedia For TD bookings is a strong rate for travel-focused spending
  • 4.5 points per $1 on groceries, dining, and transit (up to $15,000/year each category) covers common everyday spending
  • First-year annual fee rebate under TD’s current offer lowers the cost of trying the card
  • TD Rewards Points can be redeemed flexibly for travel, merchandise, or statement credits
  • Included coverage: delayed and lost baggage, auto rental collision/loss damage, purchase security and extended warranty, plus mobile device insurance up to $1,000

Cons

  • Travel emergency medical, trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance are not included — TD sells them as optional add-on coverage, so buy separate travel medical insurance before you leave
  • Bonus categories (groceries, dining, transit) are capped at $15,000/year each; spending beyond that earns the base 1.5x rate
  • 21.99%+ APR applies once you carry a balance
  • $89 fee returns in later years once the current rebate offer ends
  • Expedia For TD is a closed travel-booking platform, so the top 6x rate only applies within that ecosystem
