What Are My Points Worth? Canadian Points Value Calculator

Convert an Aeroplan, Scene+, Membership Rewards, Avion or any other Canadian points balance into dollars, using the same valuations behind the MoneyMint Score — and see the best way to redeem each one.

Valuations checked Sep 14, 2026·14 programs·MoneyMint valuations

Short answer: A Canadian rewards point is worth anywhere from 2.0¢ (Aeroplan) down to 0.1¢ (PC Optimum), so 50,000 points can be worth $1,000 in one program and $50 in another. The three most common: Aeroplan 2.0¢, Amex Membership Rewards 1.7¢ and Scene+ 1.0¢ per point. Common Questions

Are These Point Values Guaranteed?

No. A cents-per-point valuation is an editorial estimate of what a point is typically worth when redeemed well. Programs with a fixed cash value (Scene+, PC Optimum, WestJet, Moi) are close to guaranteed; airline and hotel programs vary a lot by redemption, so you may get more or less than the figure here.

Why Is Scene+ Worth Only 1¢ When Aeroplan Is Worth 2¢?

Scene+ points redeem at a fixed 1¢ each against travel, groceries or movies, so their value never rises above that. Aeroplan points are redeemed against award charts, and a well-chosen flight — a business-class seat or a short-haul route in peak season — often returns 2¢ or more per point. The trade-off is simplicity: Scene+ is effortless, Aeroplan rewards effort.

Is It Better to Redeem Points for Cash Back or Statement Credits?

Usually not, if the program also offers travel redemptions. Amex Membership Rewards, for example, pay a flat 1¢ per point as a statement credit but about 1.7¢ when transferred to an airline partner and used well. Cash back is the right choice when you would not otherwise travel, or when the program’s cash value is already its best value.

Do These Valuations Affect How MoneyMint Rates Cards?

Yes. The MoneyMint Score converts each card’s points earn rate into an estimated cash-equivalent percentage using the same valuations, so a card earning 5 Aeroplan points per dollar on travel is treated as earning about 10% back in that category. See how we rate credit cards for the full method.

Where the Numbers Come From

These are MoneyMint’s own valuations. For programs with a fixed cash value (Scene+, WestJet, MBNA, BMO Rewards, TD Rewards, PC Optimum, Moi, VIPorter) we use the redemption rate the program publishes — for example, Scene+ points redeem at 1¢ each and TD Rewards at 0.5¢ through Expedia For TD. For variable-value programs (Aeroplan, Membership Rewards, Avios, Avion, Aventura, Marriott Bonvoy) we estimate what a point is typically worth when redeemed well, which is above the statement-credit floor but well below the best-case awards you see quoted online. Issuers do not publish an official cash value for these points, so any figure is an estimate.

We re-check every valuation at least twice a year and whenever a program changes its award chart or announces a devaluation.

How to Use This

Use the calculator to sanity-check a welcome offer (“up to 50,000 points” is worth very different amounts in different programs), to decide whether a card’s points are worth more than a cash-back card would pay, and to compare two balances you already hold. For the offers themselves, see credit card welcome offers this week.

Point valuations are estimates and are not guaranteed; actual value depends on how and when you redeem. Programs can change their award charts without notice. MoneyMint may earn a commission if you apply for a card through some links on this site; that does not affect the valuations shown. This page is general information, not financial advice.
