The RBC Avion Visa Platinum is the entry point into RBC’s Avion travel rewards ecosystem, offering the same flat 1-point-per-dollar earn rate and airline-partner transfer options as its pricier Visa Infinite siblings, but without an income qualification requirement. In exchange for that lower bar to entry, cardholders give up the richer perks, like elevated travel earn rates, airport lounge access, and concierge service, reserved for the Avion Visa Infinite and Infinite Privilege tiers.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • No stated minimum personal or household income requirement, unlike the Infinite and Infinite Privilege tiers
  • Solid built-in travel insurance suite for a card at this fee level
  • Avion points never expire and transfer to several useful airline loyalty programs
  • Includes mobile device insurance

Cons

  • Flat 1x earn rate is behind many competitors and behind RBC’s own Infinite-tier cards, which earn more on travel
  • No airport lounge access, concierge, or the elevated insurance limits found on Infinite Privilege
  • $120 annual fee is meaningful for a card with no bonus spending categories

Who It’s For

Best for

  • Consumers who want to build toward RBC Avion travel redemptions but don’t yet meet the income threshold for the Visa Infinite tier
  • Cardholders who value flexible, non-expiring points transferable to airline partners over a high flat cash-back or earn rate

Not ideal for

  • Frequent travelers who qualify for the Avion Visa Infinite or Infinite Privilege and would earn more on travel spend and get lounge/concierge access there instead
  • Anyone prioritizing a high flat earn rate — cards with 1.5%+ flat cash back likely deliver more value for the same annual fee
